Description: Built in 1886 as a one-room schoolhouse, the Mountain View School operated into the 1950s - one of the last of its kind in Bethlehem Township, Oral history relates that the miners working in the iron mines around Mine Road and Norton Furnace, walked their children to the Mountain View School on their way to work. Now, part of the home's great room, the school lives on in the original bead board ceiling, wainscoting, windows, pine floors and plaster walls -- even the school's original outhouse still stands, now a home to rakes and shovels. Observant visitors may notice that some tools in the garage hang from what was once the school's coat rack.
